Comparing baggage policies for all South African flights

Comparing baggage policies

Baggage, everybody needs it but you can’t always bring it. Well for free at least. A topic not clear to everybody and we receive a lot of questions about it. How much luggage can I bring on my flight? That’s why we are writing this blog, comparing baggage policies across all South African airlines that we have available in our flight booking tool.

Mango Airlines
Economy class carry-ons are restricted to a single piece with a maximum weight of 7 kg and within specified dimensions (36 cm x 23 cm x 56 cm), together with either a handbag and/or a slimline laptop bag.

Your checked in luggage cannot exceed 20kg, but it can be divided over more than one piece.

Kulula
Your kulula flight entitles you to one free checked bag weighing up to 20kg and one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 7kg plus a slimline laptop bag or small handbag.

South African Airways
At SAA your checked in baggage restrictions are 32kg if you are in business class and 23kg if you are in economy class. For hand luggage you may bring 2 pieces of 8kg if you are in business class and 1 piece of 8kg in economy. Your hand luggage must meet the following dimensions 56cm (L) 36cm (W) 23cm (H).

SkyWise
f you are an adult travelling on your own, you are allowed TWO bags (including sporting equipment) up to 20kg in total, as checked in baggage. Your hand luggage may not exceed 7kg and should not be bigger than 36cm x 23cm x 56cm. You are allowed a slimline laptop bag in addition to your hand luggage.

When travelling with an infant, who travels free under the age of 2, your allowance remains unchanged for yourself AND your infant. If your infant is older than two, and paid for its seat, then the allowance applies to each traveller.

FlyCemAir
FlyCemAir has different baggage policies for the different routes they fly. It is therefor important to check these restrictions before you book your flight with FlyCemAir.

FlyCemAir to Bloemfontein: Adults and children over 2 years are allowed 2 pieces of free checked luggage and hand luggage with a total weight of up to 31kg. A single hand luggage item is strictly limited to 6kg. Passengers travelling with infants (0-24 months) will be allowed an additional 10kg for the infant.

FlyCemAir to Margate: Adults and children over 2 years are allowed 2 pieces of free checked luggage and hand luggage with a total weight of up to 20kg. A single hand luggage item is strictly limited to 6kg; this includes ladies handbags and laptop bags. Passengers travelling with infants (0-24 months) will be allowed an additional 10kg for the infant.

FlyCemAir to Plettenberg Bay: Adults and children over 2 years are allowed 2 pieces of free checked luggage and hand luggage with a total weight of up to 20kg. A single hand luggage item is strictly limited to 6kg; this includes ladies handbags and laptop bags. Passengers travelling with infants (0-24 months) will be allowed an additional 10kg for the infant.

FlySafair
Your fare comes with a free 7kg carry on bag. This bag should not be more than 56 x 36 x 23cm. Regulations allow for you to take two pieces on board with you, the combined weight of which should not be more than 7kg.

Checked in luggage can be purchased separately. We keep our fares low by excluding the price of a bag so you can travel light and keep your wallet full. In fact, only half of our passengers actually take bags – so why charge you for something you do not need? Should you wish to add a 20kg bag to your flight, this can be selected on our Extra’s page during the online flight booking process for R150.
